People Worth Meeting – The Psychotherapist, The Man Who Died, The Impresario, The Magician, and The Listener – The Coffee at Eleven Show S1, Eps 71-75

Last week I spoke of you and I being part of the Ireland Inc. defibrillator – this week we met The Man Who Died and who only came back after twenty minutes and THIRTEEN external defibrillator shocks were applied!

Yes, Mark Maxwell was only eighteen when he had a heart attack and died in front of Dermo (or ‘poor Dermo’ as he became known amongst the LIVE audience – you’ll just have to listen to find out why) and two other friends on a bus ride in New Zealand. And get this, it was the bus driver’s first day on the job!

This week hear Mark’s amazing story, as well as the true-life stories of another four People Worth Meeting.

This week we met The Psychotherapist, The Man Who Died, The Impresario, The Magician, and The Listener

  • Monday: Episode 71, The Psychotherapist, Harriet McGuigan, “Nobody is Perfect, But It’s Enough To Be Perfectly Imperfect”
  • Tuesday: Episode 72, The Man Who Died, Mark Maxwell, “The Difference Between Ordinary and Extraordinary is Just that Little Bit Extra”

In Their Own Words…

  • Monday: Episode 71, The Psychotherapist, Harriet McGuigan, “Nobody is Perfect, But It’s Enough To Be Perfectly Imperfect”

Monday.

People Worth Meeting – Harriet Mc Guigan– The Coffee at Eleven Show (REPLAY)

“Nobody is Perfect, But It’s Enough To Be Perfectly Imperfect” Harriet told Coffee at 11 today.

Harriet, Psychotherapist, brought the café through an awareness and acceptance of Imposter Syndrome and said “There are no mistakes, only steppingstones to the next opportunity” which interested everyone in the café this morning. Despite describing herself as an introvert who likes her own company A LOT!, Harriet works 1 on 1 with clients face to face and online as well as running group workshops in businesses; stressing the link between self-care and business/career success or otherwise. A passion of hers is around the whole are of bullying, or rather anti-bullying, and runs Raising Resilient Páisti Workshops, Mindful Teen/Tween Workshops throughout the country. Her love for this work leads her to work similarly with adults And to top it all off, Harriet speaks every Sunday evening 9.30pm on her Harriet Mc Guigan Psychotherapy Facebook Page on ‘All things Mindful’ Not bad for an introvert! Fair to say there were no Imposters left amongst our International Café audience on today’s Coffee at 11 Show. Stick on the kettle, grab a coffee and a notepad, pull up a comfy chair and listen, learn and laugh alongside the LIVE audience in this fantastic replay. • Tuesday: Episode 72, The Man Who Died, Mark Maxwell, “The Difference Between Ordinary and Extraordinary is Just that Little Bit Extra”

Tuesday.

People Worth Meeting – Mark Maxwell– The Coffee at Eleven Show REPLAY

“The Difference Between Ordinary and Extraordinary is Just that Little Bit Extra” Mark told the Coffee at 11 audience.

Racked with suspense and more than a sprinkle of humour, Mark had us all on the edge of our seats in our Irish hosted International café today. While pursuing a career in rugby, Mark dropped dead of a sudden cardiac arrest at age 18! He was extremely lucky to survive, and even more so to survive without any severe brain damage. This episode has proven time and again to be a blessing for Mark as it continues to pay dividends as he lives his life to the fullest while pursuing career in technology. We heard about how Mark would use exercise to develop his physical fitness, targeting particular areas of his physique and became the fastest, fittest most athletic person he knew. During his recovery following a 20 minute cardiac arrest needing over a dozen defib chargers to restart his heart, he approached the short term memory loss he was left with, using the very same ethos, by learning to speak fluent Spanish. Hear how he pranked his family in recovery and the miracle corner that he turned in an induced coma, whilst his nearest and dearest gathered together in hopeful intention on the other side of the planet. Fair to say Mark left a lasting impression with his energy, optimism and humour on today’s Coffee at 11 Show. Stick on the kettle, grab a coffee and a notepad, pull up a comfy chair and listen, learn and laugh alongside the LIVE audience in this fantastic replay. • Wednesday: Episode 73, The Impresario, Mick Dolan, “This Is The Start And We Will Move Forward From Here”

Wednesday.

People Worth Meeting – Mick Dolan – The Coffee at Eleven Show REPLAY

“This Is The Start And We Will Move Forward From Here” Mick Dolan as Dolan’s emerges from COVID

What a thoroughly entertaining chat we had with Mick Dolan today on The Coffee at Eleven Show, with Valerie Dolan prompting (and correcting!) him from the sidelines! We wish them all the very best as Dolan’s reopens it’s famous doors this evening July 1st 2020. Mick was born in Dublin where following school he worked in Dublin’s club scene in the ‘70s. Got a ‘real job’ when he worked in the merchant navy (Irish Shipping) and interestingly visited Limerick by ship first, coming ashore at the spot where he was to found one of Ireland’s most loved and most successful venues, Dolan’s Warehouse on The Dock Rd. Valerie Dolan said yes, and they have two children Neil and Sarah – all work in the business. They upped shticks and moved to Limerick in 1994 – having travelled here a lot to visit relations in Adare. Mick likes: Music especially Traditional Irish, Munster Rugby, Liverpool FC and creamy pints of Guinness with friends. Mick reflected on the quiet time Covid provided, he said time has been taken to reflect, to make things easier, better and nicer for people and revealed that he believes anything that involves music is worth doing. Fair to say everyone left the café feeling like a night out after today’s Coffee at 11 Show. Stick on the kettle, grab a coffee and a notepad, pull up a comfy chair and listen, learn and laugh alongside the LIVE audience in this fantastic replay. • Thursday: Episode 74, The Magician, Steve Spade, “Too Dangerous To Insure!”

Thursday.

People Worth Meeting – Steve aka Spade – Magician, Escape Artist, Illusionist – The Coffee at Eleven Show REPLAY

“Too Dangerous To Insure!” Spade – Magician, Escape Artist, Illusionist blew us away on The Coffee at Eleven Show

From magic-ing up a full cup of coffee from an empty paper bag as his opening act to having our host Colm O’Brien appear flustered when he thought the card trick he had volunteered to assist with was going awry, only to be left dumbfounded at what happened next, you literally will not believe your eyes and ears as you tune in to Thursday’s extra-magical show! Spade is a master magician, regarded internationally as “Ireland’s Houdini” according to The Irish Times. We met the man who was dropped into the River Shannon in a box which had been nailed shut, who drove a classic car completely blindfolded, was ‘burnt at the stake’ in King John’s Castle and was almost incinerated in a staged explosion at Portrush, Northern Ireland last year! Apart from Magician, Escape Artist, Illusionist, Steve is a TV Magic Consultant, Hypnotist and Mind Reader with extraordinary talent. Indeed, plaudits for his work come from sources as diverse as Radio, “The biggest escape stunt to happen in Northern Ireland, ever!” Newspaper, “Daredevil and Stunt Ace”, Oscar Winner and Musician, Glen Hansard, “Amazing.” And Mike Tyson, “Mind blowing!” Tyson was right! Stick on the kettle, grab a coffee and a notepad, pull up a comfy chair and listen, learn and laugh, alongside the LIVE audience in this fantastic replay. • Friday: Episode 75, The Listener, Catherine McGeachy, “Sense Of Connection And Creating Community Has ‘Upped’ For Sure”

Friday.

People Worth Meeting – Catherine McGeachy – The Coffee at Eleven Show REPLAY

“Sense Of Connection And Creating Community Has ‘Upped’ For Sure” Catherine told the Coffee at 11 audience.

Catherine remarked on the genuine ‘treasures’ we have in Ireland and how we are not ‘marketcentric’ or bombastic about them. We heard about Catherine’s beautiful award-winning garden that has provided a safe and welcome haven for community connection and a warm drink through the days of a lonely Covid lockdown for some. A Scot from the clan who helped Bonnie Prince Charlie escape to France, Catherine came to Limerick in 1979 to lecture in what is now the University of Limerick and wrote a book entitled, ‘Spiritual Intelligence in the Workplace’ before being asked to write many articles for women’s magazines – the most recent for Woman’s Way on the importance of forgiveness. Catherine says, “Back in 2008 I realized that the strain of the recession was causing huge problems within relationships. They didn’t realize that Life was calling them to no longer look outside themselves for strength but to turn inwards and discover the inner resources we all have but which have lain dormant for lifetimes.” As a result, Catherine shifted from working with business and industry to working with the general public and created courses covered Reigniting and Reinventing Oneself; Flow-State Living, Flow-State Spirituality; Relationship Rescue and Soulmate GPS. She goes on to say, “My main focus now is helping individuals move away from depending on the outer, sensory world for strength and support and moving inwards to building mental, emotional and verbal strength because these are the tools that can really undergird us in these very volatile times as well as empower us to create positive, new realities.” Fair to say everyone left feeling truly connected following Friday’s Coffee at 11 Show. Stick on the kettle, grab a coffee and a notepad, pull up a comfy chair and listen, learn and laugh alongside the LIVE audience in this fantastic replay.
