People Worth Meeting – The Survivor, The Globalist, The Queen, The Entrepreneurial Granny and The President – The Coffee at Eleven Show S1, Eps 66-70

You form part of the Ireland Inc. defibrillator.

We need to put on the Green Jersey, Staycation, support your favourite hotel, cafe, restaurant; that’s the message coming at the end of another great week on The Coffee at Eleven Show.

Folks, we are nearly there, Ireland Inc. is entering the final phase of COVID-19 restrictions as the economy begins the slow and painful crawl to recovery. I am needed, you are needed, we all are needed if our beautiful home island is to recover in as short a time span as possible. That means being careful, being careful as we interact, maintaining responsible social distancing per Government guidelines, but it also means getting back out there to help our brothers and sisters reestablish their businesses.

One of the most visible aspects of restrictions lifting will be cafes, hotels and restaurants beginning to reopen next week and we all wish them well – and the very best ting we can do is to show our support, go have that cup of coffee and slice of apple tart, go out for Sunday lunch, book a Staycation here – ladies and gentlemen, you are being called upon to help kickstart your own economy first.

You form part of the Ireland Inc. defibrillator.

Here’s to us all.

In Their Own Words…

  • Monday: Episode 66, The Survivor, John Loftus: “If we Can Hold Onto the Humanity We’ve Discovered It will Have All Been Worth It”

Monday.

People Worth Meeting –John Loftus– The Coffee at Eleven Show (REPLAY)

“If we Can Hold Onto the Humanity We’ve Discovered It will Have All Been Worth It” John told Coffee at 11

John, a transplant Olympian who stared in to the abyss and reinvented himself several times, despite reaching death’s door at 44 years of age says “Safety is no accident” and observing that “ We get so wound up about STUFF”, that today is the only day we should ever worry about. Joining us on his centennial day in Lockdown John was well received in our International café. Hurling in particular is a huge passion for John, and he coached Ballybrown to Two limerick Senior Championships a Munster and to an All-Ireland. Tears were shed when limerick won the All-Ireland in 2018. Outside of that, John runs the leading business and mentoring network in Munster with 70 members providing advice, support and business contacts. The group has loyalty, honesty, and decency as core values. It is a network for grown-ups with several million Euro worth of business being transacted each year. As one member said, “This is real networking, this is what I expected when I joined an alternate group.” John says, “With over 50 years’ experience in various sectors I use my vast array of experience to maximize my members experience and benefit. A year ago I thought zoom was a fast car or a setting on a camera, now I recognize it is the most valuable tool to promote my business which has grown hugely since the lockdown. I am excited about the future and will use technology even at my tender age!” Fair to say our café left with a new friend, by the name of Mr John Loftus. Stick on the kettle, grab a coffee and a notepad, pull up a comfy chair and listen, learn and laugh alongside the LIVE audience in this fantastic replay. A Coffee at Eleven Show not to be missed! #PeopleworthMeeting #CoffeewithColm #Coffeeat11

  • Tuesday: Episode 67, The Globalist, Raymond Sexton: “Is New York the Global Capital of Ireland?”

Tuesday.

People Worth Meeting – Raymond Sexton– The Coffee at Eleven Show REPLAY

“Is New York the Global Capital of Ireland?” Raymond Sexton mused metaphorically on Coffee at 11

From Raymond’s days as a boy scout and a “Rugby Conscientious Objector!” (Oh the shame!). Raymond brought us on a journey that took us around the world in todays International, Irish hosted café, offering us an anecdotal warning to “Beware the Naked Man that Offers You His Shirt” Raymond is best known as the prime mover behind the Tangible Leadership Series which seeks to promote Social and Economic Regeneration through supporting Business and Civic Leaders. Prior to (and in parallel with) that, Raymond is an experienced professional in Business Growth, Infrastructure Delivery, Strategy Implementation and Community Development. He completed an MBA at Melbourne Business School in 2016 after 30 years plus experience, 10 in Australia & over 20 in Europe. Having delivered critical assignments for a wide variety of clients through his technical and management knowledge coupled with exceptional interpersonal skills. He has a unique ability to develop a deep understanding of multiple stakeholder perspectives. Fair to say the Raymond brought us around the world in less than 80 mins on the Coffee at 11 Show. Stick on the kettle, grab a coffee and a notepad, pull up a comfy chair and listen, learn and laugh alongside the LIVE audience in this fantastic replay. • Thursday: Episode 69, The Entrepreneurial Granny, Barbara Gordon: “Back to Basics, Pivot If You Can and There Will Be a Bit of Good There Too”

Thursday.

People Worth Meeting – Barbara Gordon – The Entrepreneurial Granny – The Coffee at Eleven Show REPLAY

“Back to Basics, Pivot If You Can and There Will Be a Bit of Good There Too” Barbara Gordon on what she’s learned through COVID

From selling pots of tea to print media to online subscriptions all the while encouraging multiple business owners to collaborate, Barbara gets an idea and runs with it until it’s something to marvel at. During the last recession Barbara had a vision for a BizExpo and set this up in 2012 which she ran very successfully for 6 years until she passed it on in 2018. Her latest business WhatsWhat.ie is an Online Directory for Irish Businesses, however it is soooo much more than just a Directory with more than 40 businesses registering every week. She has also set up a FB Business group with over 2,500 members and interacts every day with members, encouraging them to interact also. In a nutshell I guess you could say Barbara is like a dog with a bone; she has an idea, gets stuck in and doesn’t let go easily. Barbara visualises a business idea, learns along the way and does not stop until she gets there. In every aspect of life, she’s not a giver upper At 67 years young, it is fair to say the Barbara demonstrated unbridled tenacity on the Coffee at 11 Show today. Stick on the kettle, grab a coffee and a notepad, pull up a comfy chair and listen, learn and laugh alongside the LIVE audience in this fantastic replay. Friday.

People Worth Meeting – Elaina Fitzgerald Kane– The Coffee at Eleven Show REPLAY

“It’s Time To Wear The Green Jersey. It’s Staycation 2020. We Must Restart Our Own Economy First.” Elaina Fitzgerald Kane, President of the Irish Hotels Federation

Elaina Fitzgerald Kane, Fitzgerald Woodlands Hotel & Spa, Adare, Co. Limerick and current President of the Irish Hotels Federation, as well as esteemed member of The tourism Recovery Taskforce, took time out from an insanely busy schedule and joined us in our Irish hosted, Internationally visited café on the last weekday of lockdown for the hurting hospitality sector in Ireland. Elaina, delighted to be the newly elected President of the Irish Hotels Federation, follows in the footsteps of her mother Mary, ironically whose tenure presided over the self-same industry sector during the fallout from 911. Cometh The Hour, Cometh The Women. We had the absolute pleasure of meeting Mary on today’s show, and she immediately endeared herself to everyone present. Being second generation in the family dynasty that is Fitzgerald Woodlands Hotel & Spa, Adare, Co. Limerick, it is no surprise that Elaina’s first job in the hotel world was at the tender age of 9. By the time she went to Shannon College of Hotel Management, she had worked in most areas of their family hotel. Her world view began to form as part of her studies, Elaina gained experiences in Switzerland, the UK & the USA, and has subsequently completed a Masters in Marketing Management in the Michael Smurfit Graduate School of Business. Having lectured for a few years, Elaina returned to her family hotel where she is now a Director. Naturally, her speciality is in Marketing, but includes Best Practice and Revenue Management which she says combine nicely as “…a bit of creativity and number crunching.” She lives by the words “Delivered Passionately With Love” and Elaine certainly did exactly this in the café today. Fair to say a ‘Staycation’ was the special of the day in our International Café with Elaina on the Coffee at 11 Show. Stick on the kettle, grab a coffee and a notepad, pull up a comfy chair and listen, learn and laugh alongside the LIVE audience in this fantastic replay, then book your Staycation anywhere in Ireland (book direct for the very best deals bar none) A Coffee at Eleven Show for the archives. #PeopleworthMeeting #CoffeewithColm #Coffeeat11
